Vivian Marie (Schmelling)Arneson (23) was the fifth of seven children born to Elna Nilsdotter (Nelson) (Swedish immigrant) and Christian Frederik Schmelling (Danish immigrant).She was born in Big Stone County, Minnesota and moved with her parents to Kandiyohi Township, Burke County, North Dakota in 1909 when she was 8 yrs. old. During the 1920 census, she was living with her parents on the family farm before they moved to Kenmare, ND. In 1922 Vivian was in nurses training at St. Joseph's Hospital in Minot, North Dakota.
On August 7, 1923 she married Clarence Melvin Arneson in Minot, North Dakota. Clarence's parents were from Ettrick, WI. Clarence and Vivian moved to Scobey, Montana where he was a barber and she became seriously ill.
They returned to her parent's home in Kenmare for medical attention. Vivian died less than a year after her marriage. She died in Kenmare of peritonitis from a ruptured pyloric ulcer. She is buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Kenmare, North Dakota. No Children. Her husband, Clarence, remarried later.

Vivian Schmelling ArnesonMrs. Vivian Arneson passed away at
the local hospital Monday morning, at the age of 22 years, after an illness lasting about three months, death being due to a complication of diseases. She was born at Ortonville, Minn., and came to this part of North Dakota with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Christ Schmelling, who settled on a farm southwest of Kenmare, where Vivian grew towomanhood.She was always of a lovable disposition and enjoyed her home where she was always found until about two and a half years ago when she went to Minot and took a course in nurse training at St. Joseph's Hospital. On August 7, 1923, she was united in marriage at Minot, to Clarence Arneson, of this city. Soon after their marriage they settled at Scobey, Mont., where they resided for about three months when Mrs. Arneson was taken ill, and she was brought to her home here that she might receive better medical attention. Her condition did not seem to improve and she was removed to the hospital where she remained until her death. She was loved by everyone who knew her and was of a quiet and happy disposition. Her great many friends join in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved husband, parents, sisters and brothers. Funeral services will be held from the Nazareth Danish Lutheran Church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Besides her husband deceased is survived by her parents, three sisters, and two brothers, as follows: Mrs. Miles Sheets, Mrs. Arthur Leslie, Anna, Sophus and George Schmelling.
