MRS. BECKLEY'S INJURIES.
They Are of a Very Painful and Serious Nature. Mrs. Thomas Beckley (Incorrect husband), who was badly injured at the Alta fire on Sunday morning, by jumping from a window of the burning hotel, was yesterday brought to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kunz. in this city. She bore the trip quite well. Accomodation was made for her in the baggage car of the train, as she was prostrate upon a spring cot that could not be easily taken into a coach. Dr. Baldwin and Mrs. Beckley's husband, father and mother accompanied her. The injured woman is very brave, and bears her sufferings courageously. The full extent of her injuries are not yet known. She says she was not aroused by any one calling to her at the fire. She heard a noise below, but supposed it to come from a party of merry-makers. Later, smoke crept beneath her door. She had only time to throw on a wrapper, call out to two men in rooms next to hers to save themselves, and then open the window, when the fire broke into her room. She then remembered that her husband's watch and a wedding Jewel were at her bedside, and she crawled back through the smoke and rescued them (they were afterward stolen from her pereon). When she again got to the window she saw no one, and nobody appeared in answer to her frenzied cries. It was leap or be suffocated, and she sprang out, falling between forty and fifty feet down the hillside.

HER SUFFERINGS ENDED.
Death Last Evening of Mrs. J. A. Beckley. After two years of severe suffering, death came last evening to Mrs. Katherine Frances Beckley, wife of J. A. Beckley of this city. Mrs. Beckley, It will remembered, had a narrow escape from being burned to death in the fire that destroyed the hotel at Alta in September, 1897. She received injuries at that time from which she never recovered. Deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kunz. She was born and reared in Sacramento, and was loved and esteemed by her associates of girl-hood days, and all that knew her later as friend, wife and mother. Though long a sufferer, she was patient and uncomplaining, and met the inevitable with the calmness and fortitude of one whose life was without flaw. Besides her husband, parents, brothers and sisters, Mrs. Beckley leaves a little daughter to mourn her loss.
