Lena Arce Martinez passed away on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 in Seguin at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 3 days. She was born on Nov. 14, 1928 in Nixon to Juan and Felecita Gaytan Arce. She was a lifetime resident of Nixon.
Lena was a volunteer in God's House, the food pantry and a provider for the elderly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Estevan Martinez, son Stevie Martinez, daughter Josie Cantu; brother Juan, Arce, and grandson, Edward Cantu Jr.
She is survived by her children, Emma and Jim T. Flores of Seguin, Gloria and Salvador 'Rayo' Mendiola of Nixon, Delia and Steve Aguirre of Nixon, Linda and Paul Rodriguez of Austin, Christy Medina of Nixon, John and Rita Acre of Austin, Eli and Yolanda Martinez of Pearland, and Michael Aaron Martinez of Nixon; brothers, Ezekiel G. Arce of Kansas, and Raul and Pola Aguirre of Nixon; sister, Naomi and Edward Trigo of Austin, daughter-in-law, Debbie Martinez of Arkansas, son-in-law, Edward Cantu Sr, of San Antonio; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation was held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 in the First Baptist Church in Nixon. A prayer service followed. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Nixon with Rev. Rene Amaya and Rev. Tommy Garza officiating. Interment will follow at the Latin American Cemetery in Nixon.
Pallbears are Jasen Martinez, Gabriel Martinez, L. J. Martinez, Freddy Aguirre, Joel Aguirre and Jeffery Acre. Honorary pallbears are Paul Rodriguez and Fred Estrada Jr.
