Entrepreneur.Son of a wealthy farmer, of Serafino Ferruzzi grew up professionally in the company, of which he became son marrying his daughter Idina. The December 10, 1979 Serafino Ferruzzi died in a plane crash and his heirs entrusted the operational powers to Gardini for the whole group: it took nearly a year to take stock of all the possessions that Ferruzzi had acquired in the course of its business. At a time when Europe was becoming an importer to exporter of grain, trading activities lost their importance and concern primarily the import of soybeans produced in the farms located in Argentina Ferruzzi. In a few years Raul Gardini Ferruzzi transformed into a group dominated by industry, thanks to a policy of continuous acquisitions between 1981 and 1986 was acquired control of the largest Italian producer of sugar, Eridania, then publicly traded, and French producer of sugar Beghin Say.
The figure of Gardini is also linked to sport and in particular the America's Cup, which the Moro di Venezia, the boat built by Gardini and funded by Montedison, was the protagonist in 1992. It was the first Italian yacht in history to win the Louis Vuitton Cup The crew of the Moor, headed by Paul Cayard, was defeated in the final of Copa America by America ³ Bill Koch in San Diego (USA) also because of the cut in funding imposed by Carlo Sama. But the world of volleyball Ravenna owes much to Raul Gardini and the Ferruzzi group: from the historic epic of Olympia Theodora Manu Benelli and Sergio Guerra (soybean oil, "Theodora" was produced by the Italian Oil & Rice, a subsidiary of Ferruzzi ) in the women's volleyball, the extraordinary years of Il Messaggero volleyball Karch Kiraly and Steve Timmons (Il Messaggero newspaper was owned by Montedison), until the construction of PalaDeAndrè, the sports arena named Mauro De Andre Ravenna, group executive Ferruzzi was tragically killed.
They found him dead in his home in Milan, the eighteenth-century palace Belgioioso, July 23, 1993: from conversations with his lawyers of the last hours, had appeared very shaken by the news of suicide in the prison of San Vittore Gabriele Cagliari (his rival in the story Enimont), but also by the knowledge that investigators now pointed at him.
