Mrs. Gust Anderson, whose maiden name was Emma A. Runneberg, was born at Paxton, Ill., on April 2, 1876. Due to a prolonged weakness of the heart she passed away at her home in the Jack Creek township, Emmet county, on Saturday morning, June 1, 1935. She was at the time of her death 59 years, 1 month and 10 days old.
On February 20, 1900, occurred the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Anderson at Laurens, Iowa. During the 35 years of their married lives they have been engaged in farming with the exception of one year when they lived at Arcadia, Calif. The Andersons moved thereto in the interest of the health of Mrs. Anderson.
They have had their home at the following places: one year at Albert City; two years at Ellendale, N. Dak.; nineteen years at Curlew; and during the last thirteen years in Emmet county, including that year when they resided on the West Coast.
Mrs. Anderson was the mother of five children. A daughter passed away in infancy. Her four sons, Vernon, of Estherville; Raymond and Lloyd of Curlew, and Lawrence of Ringsted, survive her. Likewise does her husband and five grandchildren.
Mrs. Gust Anderson was baptized and likewise confirmed in the Lutheran faith while she lived at Paxton, Ill. She was a devoted wife and a good-hearted mother.
The funeral service was held on Monday, June 3. Rev. Peder Nordsletten of Wallingford was in charge. A brief service was conducted at 12:30, noon, at the home in the Jack Creek township. A trio composed of Mr. and Mrs. James Edward and Mrs. D. G. Warner of Armstrong, sang two numbers at the home.
The service proper was held at the Methodist church at Curlew at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Joseph Castle of Mallard assisted Rev. Nordsletten in the service. A quartette composed of Mrs. Vir Scott, Miss Ruth Cross, Mr. Ralph Coder, sang four songs during the church service. These singers were accompanied by Miss Helen Drown. Rev. Peder Nordsletten sang a number at the grave.
Interment was made in the Rush Lake cemetery near Curlew. Six nephews of the late Mrs. Anderson served as pallbearers: Arnold Runneberg of Curlew, Lawrence, Carl, Emmet and Arthur Runneberg of Laurens and Elroy Runneberg of Havelock.
