Godfrey (Gottfried) Henning was born in Prussia to parents George and Mary Henning. He immigrated to the U.S. between 1849-1858 (three different immigration years reported in three U.S. censuses). He married Barbara Mathias (AKA Mathis) on April 25, 1857 in Louisville, KY (Barbara was born in Alsace-Lorraine in France, b.abt 1828 and d.bet.1880-1887). They had five children: Bertha "Bettie" E. (Mannion), Emma H. (Stevenson), Mary G. (Walter), George J., and Louise. Godfrey was a shoemaker. He lived most of his U.S. life in Louisville, but was found living or visiting his son, George, in Leadville, CO during the 1900 and 1910 censuses. Godfrey was buried January 21, 1925 in St. Louis Cemetery.
