Mrs. Joy B. Alexander, age 76, of Lyons, died Monday, June 17, 2013 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County and lived in Lyons most of her life. She retired as an educator from the Toombs County School System and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Lyons, the John Durst Sunday School Class, and the New Life Circle. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Sally Gibbs Bargeron.

Mrs. Alexander is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, William E. "Bill" Alexander of Lyons; one daughter, Terri A. Johnson and husband Fred of Lyons; one son, Rick Alexander and wife Tonia of Lake Sinclair; seven grandchildren, David Johnson, Sherry Hellerstedt, Jordan Alexander, Tiffany Alexander, Chase Alexander, Jackson Alexander, and Lily Cox; and seven great-grandchildren, Makenzie Grace Alexander, Laura Johnson, Justin Johnson, Brook Hellerstedt, Ashley Hellerstedt, Micayla Hellerstedt, and Caroline Hellerstedt.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 19th at 11:00 am in the First United Methodist Church of Lyons with Pastor Barry Giddens officiating. Burial will follow in the Lyons City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday morning from 9:00 until 11:00.
