Mrs. Margaret C. Smith, widow of Peter Smith passed away Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter Mrs. Joseph Diefenbach, 14 Fay street, following a lingering illness. Mrs. Smith was born in this city 66 years ago and had always lived here. Her maiden name was Margaret Carmody and she was the daughter of the late Michael and Nora Carmody. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and of the Rosary Society and the League of the Sacred Heart connected therewith. Her death is mourned by a legion of friends by whom she was held in high esteem. Deceased married Peter Smith 48 years ago. he passed away about two months ago. Besides the daughter with whom she resided Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, William and Frederick Smith; one sister, Nora Carmody and 10 grandchildren all of Utica. The funeral was held from her late home yesterday morning and a half hour later from St. Patrick's Church where a high mass of requiem was celebrated by Rev. Father Nicholas J. Quinn. The bearers were Michael, William and Daniel Carmody of Auburn, nephews of the deceased and Joseph Kammerlohr, William Diefenbach and George Wankel, of Utica. The remains were placed in the receiving vault in St. Agnes Cemetery.
