Thomas Dow Beal, the son of Richard and Verna (Chaplin) Thompson, was born May 1, 1922 at Cowles, Nebraska. He departed this life on Monday, June 28, 2004 at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 27 days.

Tom was adopted at a young age and raised by his great aunt and uncle, John and Mina Beal. He grew up in Blue Hill and graduated from the Guide Rock High School in 1940. He was married to Mary Figgins on June 30, 1941 at Beloit, Kansas. This union was blessed with a daughter, Linda. A veteran of World War II, Tom enlisted in 1942 with the United States Army and served in the European Theatre of Operations. Following his discharge in 1945, they lived in Hastings for a time, then moved to Colorado where he farmed and later pursued his life's passion, driving a truck. His marriage with Mary later ended, and Mary preceded him in death on May 10, 1991.

On December 23, 1966 he married Eunice Hilda (Cole) Evans at Alva, Oklahoma. They lived at Hutchinson, Kansas and in 1989, moved to Montrose, Kansas. In 1990, they moved to the Guide Rock community where he was employed as a truck driver with Transwod, Inc., until retiring in 2002. He was quartermaster for the Guide Rock V.F.W. Post. His wife, Eunice, died on October 20, 2000.

In his leisure time Tom enjoyed being out doors, working on old cars and tractors, and visiting with his friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wives; brothers, William and Eugene Thompson, and a step-sister, Leona Killough.

Left to treasure his memory are his daughter, Linda Alexander and husband Nodee of Loveland, Colorado; 2 grandchildren: Daniel Alexander and wife Mikyong and daughter Courtney Lynn; and Jaime Oglesby and husband Brent all of Loveland; step-sisters: Joan Bassart of Loveland; and Esther Mitzelfelt of Red Cloud; and Barbara Scheid of Hutchinson, Kansas; special friend, Violet Merrill of Guide Rock; step-daughters: Doris (Bill) Warren of Guide Rock; Dona Patterson of Pretty Prairie, Kansas; and Debra Klick (Rerry) of Attica, Kansas; step-sons: Sherman Evans of Florida; Darwin Evans (Delilah) of Grand Island, Nebraska; and John Beal of Hutchinson, Kansas; 15 step-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
