Rosalie Wandzel Sanetra
Learn about upgrading this memorial...
Birth: Aug. 17, 1885, Poland
Death: Oct. 13, 1918
Cook County
Illinois, USA

Rosalie is a great grandmother of mine. She was born in Zablocie-Zywiec, Bielsko, Poland. (Now Slaskie province) Her parents were: Wawrzyniec Wandzel & Regina Zulawska. Rosalie was the youngest of 7 children. Her siblings were: Anna, Helena & Michal. She had 3 siblings die as babies: Karol, Rozalia, & Wojcieth.

Rosalie married Adam Sanetra 5 Feb 1900. They immigrated to Chicago 5 Feb 1904. They had a baby Branislawa "Bessie" Sanetra the govt said they had to leave behind, but just for 3 months. Bessie stayed with Rosalie's family. But she was not able to come until 19 Feb 1911, seven years later. She & her aunt Marianna Klosak Wojtas never found Adam & Rosalie. Our family still (100 years later) doesn't know what happened to Bessie after her arrival. Adam & Rosalie also had: Stanley, Paul, Ervin, Bennie & Joe.

Rosalie died in the Chicago flu epidemic. The children were temporarily placed in an orphanage until Adam could remarry. When he went to pick the children up, only the youngest two were left. Then Adam was denied citizenship, so he, his new wife & two boys went back to Poland. After long searches for the rest of the children. Our family still doesn't know what became of Stanley either.

Rosalie was buried in a term grave. Her grave is still unmarked, and is a paupers grave. Her death certificate states she was buried in this Bohemian cemetery, & the cemetery confirms a burial record for her.

So this is a moment to remember she had a hard life. She was a wife, daughter, sister & mother to 6 children. I named my daughter after her. I keep a blog (ad free) of the findings of my Polish family & genealogical helps/tools I find:
