Census records from 1850 and 1860 confirm that he was born in Kentucky around 1796. Source listed beneath states that the stone once present (now missing or obliterated in 2007) stated that he died in July, at the age of 66 years, 25 days.

Federal Land Office records show that he paid $120 for the purchase of 160 acres in the southwest corner of Section 21, in Bethel Township, McDonough County, based on the authority of a cash sale of August 5, 1836.

He served from McDonough County in the Mormon War of the 1840's.

He shows up in the Bethel Township, McDonough County, Illinois Federal 1860 census as a 64-year-old farmer born in Kentucky. Also residing in the home are 75-year-old Margaret McQuady, and 60-year-old Elizabeth McComsey; Elizabeth is listed third in the household listing—if she was a spouse, she would normally have been listed directly beneath Robert. In 1850 these three are once again the only ones in the household, but this time Margaret is listed as "McComsey" also—and she is still listed second, Elizabeth is listed third once again. Duane Lester's "Rural Cemeteries . . .," does suggest that Elizabeth, born about 1800 in Kentucky, was his spouse.

Mary "Polly" (McComsey) McClure and Jane (McComsey) Wilson, both from Kentucky, are both interred in this cemetery and are possibly siblings or other relatives of Robert. Neither Elizabeth nor Margaret have been located in the 1870 census--they may have been deceased by that time.

Biographical information comes from census records, vital statistics, and marriage records from Ancestry.com and the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index.

Burial is documented by: Duane Lester's, "Rural Cemeteries of McDonough County, Illinois, Volume II, Bethel-Industry."
