Ray Larry Humpherys, our beloved family patriarch and leader, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016 at St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho. Ray was born to Clem and Rose Humpherys on February 25, 1938 in Paris, Idaho. Ray graduated from Fielding High School in Paris in 1956. He attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah on a basketball scholarship. Ray returned home to help on the family farm and start a career. He spent two years serving his country in the Army.

He married the love of his life, Marlene Nye, on November 11, 1962. Together they raised four children at their family home in Montpelier, Idaho. Due to Ray's work opportunities, his family adventures started quickly with a three year stay in Australia and a six month stay in Israel. Stops in Hawaii, Singapore, Greece, Switzerland, Fiji, and Florida for Cape Canaveral and Disneyland are a few of the places the family visited.

As his children grew older, Ray decided to stop working overseas and settled the family once again in their family home in Montpelier and worked at Stauffer Chemical while his children attended Jr. High and High School. After his four children graduated from high school, he again resumed his work that took him all over the world. Ray worked in Africa and Germany after which he and Marlene then traveled together to work and live in China, Europe, and Puerto Rico as well as places in the Midwestern United States.

Ray loved to fish, hunt and spend time with friends. Annual bow camp was as much a family reunion as a hunting trip for many years. He also spent endless hours fishing, relaxing and caring for his self-made oasis at the Blackfoot Reservoir where the family has many fond memories of happy times, as well as on the family boat, water skiing at Bear Lake where Ray had endless patience teaching and working with new skiers to get them up out of the water. He was a Bear Laker through and through and enjoyed countless sunrises and sunsets out on his patio near his garage, listening to music and taking in the beauty he not only created with his own hands at the family homestead, but also the beauty created by God's hands in the breathtaking Bear Lake Valley.

Ray was heavily involved in the VFW for the Bear Lake Valley. He was proud to serve and honor those veterans in the annual 4th of July parade, by assisting and/or organizing military rites at many funeral services over the years and in any other way he could be of service to that organization.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his son Curtis Ray, his brothers Roger and Wayne, and his sisters, Thelda, Ruth Ann and Elizabeth.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Marlene, daughter Tara Humpherys, Meridian, son Allen Troy and Amy Humpherys, Meridian and son Todd and Mendi Humpherys, Twin Falls. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Tara), Joshua (Curtis), Emily, Kate and Curtis (Allen and Amy) and Tiffany and Cru (Todd and Mendi) and his sisters Mary Jo Aland and Jane (Conrad) Michaelson.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to the attentive and compassionate care provided at St. Luke's in Twin Falls and Bear Lake Memorial Hospitals.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 12th at the Montpelier 3rd Ward LDS Church at 2 p.m. with a viewing 1-1:45 p.m. Graveside services will be held at the Montpelier Cemetery with military rites. Viewing will be held at the Montpelier Mortuary on Friday from 7-9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Memorial Fund Ray L. Humpherys at any Wells Fargo Bank and the family will carry out Ray's wishes to donate these funds to the Wounded Warriors.
