David's mother was Margaret De Graff born 5-15-1816 died 11-14-1850 Earlville. James and Margaret were married 11-5-1835 Johnstown, Montgomery Co. New York and moved to Earlville in 1840. David's mother Margaret is buried in the South Paw Paw Cemetery,Lee Co. Illinois just a few miles from the Wood family farm in LaSalle Co.
David's grandparents were David Wood born 1764 Root, Montgomery Co,New York. Died 3-3-1844 Earlville, ILL. Married Elizabeth Van Der Werken 8-11-1793 Ft. Plains, Montgomery Co. New York. Elizabeth born 9-23-1776 Montgomery Co. N.Y. and died 7-13-1869 in Earlville, ILL. They joined their sons in Earlville in August 1843. David and Elizabeth are buried in South Paw Paw Cemetery, Paw Paw, Lee County, Illinois.
David James Wood's great grandparents were Uriah Wood 1724 in England. Died sometime after 1802 in New York state. Came to America before 1745. Married Magdalena Quackkenbush in 1748 in Albany, New York. Magdalena born 9-21-1727 and baptized 9-23-1727 in the Dutch Reformed Church, Schenectady, New York.

Matthew born 12-10-1862 Oxford, Ontario, Canada. Died 8-16-1887. Their wagon was swept away in high water while trying to cross Pipe Creek.
David walked away from his family home in Earlville 5-1-1870 and wasn't heard from again until Almira found out he had married Susan and was living in Kansas, and she divorced him.
David James married his second wife Susanah (Susan) Anna Elder on 10-15-1871 in Prairie Co. Arkansas. Susan born 3-21-1853 Effingham Co., Illinois. Died 4-21-1929 Cushing, Payne Co. Oklahoma. Buried in the Fairlawn Cemetery there.
She was the daughter of Isaac Rains Elder and Elizabeth Chilcoat.
