Death: Dec. 1, 1970

Mr. Astrab first joined the United State Army in May of 1919. He served his three years and was discharged in May of 1922. He then joined the United State Navy in August of 1922 and was eventually retired as a Chief Gunner's Mate in February of 1948. During his Navy career he was assigned to the USS Pennsylvania, USS Seattle, USS Mallard, USS Pigeon (ASR6), USS Canopus, USS Finch (AM-9), USS Henderson, USS Quincy, USS Tuscaloosa, USS Arcturus(AKA-1), USS Washburn (AKA-108) and the USS Missouri (BB-63). During his service in WWII he participated in the Algeria-Morocco Landing, the Sicilian Occupation, the Salerno Landings, and the Invasion of Southern France. He was awarded the Navy Good Conduct medal, the China Service medal, the American Defense Service medal, the American Theater Campaign medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with 4 service stars, and the World War II Victory medal with service lapel button.
