In 1847 he served as a driver in the Mexican War, and traveled to Santa Fe. 1862 saw him called upon again for Civil War duty, again as a driver. Company H 9, Mo. S.M. Vol. Cav. He sustained an injury from this service, and was discharged.
Earlier in their marriage they lived in the northern Missouri area- Howard, Boone, Chariton Counties. Their later years they went south, to Dade County.
William and Frances E had 10 children together, so says the 1900 census, but only 3 survived to an older age.
