Richard F. Adams, 66, was found dead Saturday evening near the home of his daughter, Mrs. Russell Carter, Route 9, and Coroner Robert F. Lyons said today "it obviously was suicide." He said death resulted from a gunshot wound in the heart.
Adams reportedly had gone into the woods behind his daughter's house at 4:30 p.m. with a 12 gauge shot gun. When he failed to return, the family started looking for him, and found him in a ravine approximately 200 yards from the house.
Lyons said apparently no suicide note had been left, and that Adams had not been despondent, but that he had been in ill health.
He was a former employee of the Showers Brothers factory and a member of the Clear Creek Christian Church.
Survivors include the daughter, Mrs. Carter; two sons, William L. Adams, Route 9, and Roy Adams, Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. William J. Rush of this city; three grandchildren and an uncle, Benjamin Helms, Indianapolis.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Clear Creek Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. R. S. Kilmer will officiate and music will be furnished by the Burgess Snows.
Pallbearers will be Fred Stotts, Ray Koontz, Eugene Stansifer, William J. Adams, Fred Dyer and Clifford Helms.
