Leland Stanford Davis, 81, former Chief of Police of the Vancouver Police Department in Vancouver, Washington, suffered from Alzheimer's disease for years, died peacefully August 12, 2016. He was born in Van Nuys, California to Aubrey and Glada Davis.

Lee had a distinguished career in law enforcement. He began as a Deputy Sheriff in the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department in Los Angeles, California and earned Bachelor and Master degrees at California State University in Police Administration and Public Service before rising to the rank of Lieutenant. In 1972, Lee was appointed Assistant Sheriff of Santa Cruz Co. in California before becoming the Chief of Police in Pittsburg, California in 1975. Lee was sworn in as Chief of Police of Vancouver, Washington in September, 1979, retiring in October, 1989. He was the only Chief in Vancouver to serve in that position for 10 years. During his long career, Chief Davis also taught college classes in Los Angeles, Santa Cruz and Pittsburg to law enforcement students.

He joined the Vancouver Rotary Club in Vancouver, Washington in 1980, served as Secretary for 3 years, became a Paul Harris Fellow, received the honor of Distinguished Rotarian and had perfect attendance for 35 years. He was actively involved in the Clark County Republican Party and helped groom candidates for election.

Lee was kind and respectful to others and liked by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by the love of his life of 47 years, Judith; 3 children: Brian (April), Stacy Koontz (Steve) and Scott; 7 grandchildren; and a younger brother, Bill (Linda).

A Celebration of Life was held at New Heights Church, 7913 NE 58th Ave., Vancouver, Washington, on September 16, 2016. A reception followed. A private military burial was held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
