Josh died of a brain tumor.
After his death, his brother Ben Hardy came home one day to find his home had been burglarized. Ben immediately ran upstairs to check his closet. He found that the autographed guitar that was given to Josh by the members of Pearl Jam, on a trip arranged by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, was gone. The guitar symbolized Josh's love of music and the trip was his dying wish.
They also stolen a mandolin, an acoustic guitar, another electric guitar, a bass, and amps.
On December 11, 2011, police recovered the guitar and arrested two men from Burlington, VT. Jeffrey Leduc and Timothy Crews were charged with receiving stolen property.
The guitar is damaged. The bands autographs are sanded off. But to Ben, it's more about having a piece of his brother back.
"It'll have to be reassembled, but the most important thing is that it's safe and going to be back in our family where it belongs," Ben said.
