FARMINGTON -- Phyllis Paine Adams, 84, of Wilton, died March 19, 2009, at the Sandy River Center for Healthcare and Rehabilitation, where she had been a patient for the last 10 days.
She was born Aug. 18, 1924, in Temple, the daughter of Lewis and Marguerite (Hellen) Paine. She graduated from Wilton Academy in 1942 and attended the Maine School of Commerce in Auburn.
She married Glenn Adams on June 19, 1948. He died on Jan. 2, 1995.
She worked for several years at the Wilton Water Co., the Wilton Woolen Mill office and Depositors Trust Co. She later chose to become a full-time homemaker, spending endless hours baking. She was well known for her yeast rolls, as well as her Christmas Stollen bread during the holidays.
She also enjoyed sewing, reading, knitting and traveling. She especially enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens and going up to camp in Phillips every weekend. She and Glenn spent several months during the winter in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and made a trip to Germany to visit with their son, Robin.
Phyllis was a longtime member of Wilton United Methodist Church, the Women's Society and the Wiltona Club. She began volunteering at the Franklin Memorial Hospital gift shop in 1994, which she truly enjoyed.
She is survived by a daughter, Marti Davis and her husband, Jonathan, of Farmington; a son, Robin of Germany; five grandchildren, Kyle Davis and his wife, Megan, of Vienna; Jessica Davis Forbes and her husband, Eric, of Farmington; and Stefanie, Michele and Michael Adams of Germany; one great-grandson, Justin of Germany; and a sister, Joyce Roberto of Simsbury, Conn.
She was predeceased by a sister, Rena Hunnewell; and a brother, Edward Vining.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High St., Wilton, on Thursday, March 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration-of-life funeral service will be held Friday, March 27, at 2 p.m. at the Wilton United Methodist Church, Main Street, Wilton, with the Rev. Margaret Proctor officiating. Following services, the Women's Fellowship will host a comfort reception in the church vestry.
