LOS INDIOS, TX.
Amelia "Mela" Canales, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the age of 71. "Mela" as she was known to her family and friends was born on May 28, 1939 in Los Indios.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Roberto and Maria L. Canales; brothers, Roberto Canales, Jr., and Abelino Canales; and a niece, Nora Canales Rodriguez.
"Mela" is survived by her loving children, Humberto (Aurora) Gonzales, Armando (Diana) Saldivar, Ruben (Elizabeth) Saldivar, and Norma Jean Saldivar (Jorge); and brothers, Amador Canales of Houston and Primitivo Canales of San Benito.
"Mela's" greatest joys were her grandchildren & great grandchildren, Brianna, Robert, Laura, Jasmine, Valerie, Augustin, Jr., Andrew, Mando, Ruben, Jr., Victoria, JeniLee, Kayla, Kira, Alexis, Julia, & Carly.
She enjoyed cookouts with her children & grandchildren. One of her favorite pastimes was eating out with her daughter, Norma Jean who was also her best friend. "Mela" enjoyed life everyday to the very end. She will be dearly missed because she was dearly loved by not only her family, but by all those who knew her.
Visitation will be held today, May 10, 2011 from 10 A.M. to 9 P.M. with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 P.M. at Trinity Funeral Chapel of the Holy Spirit.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 10 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Las Rusias with interment to follow to Aguilar Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Humberto Gonzalez, Armando Saldivar, Tony Canales, Benny Canales, Benito Canales, and George Cortinas. Honorary pall-bearer will be Santiago David Garza and Ramiro Roberto Garza.
