Allen William Alt, 84, Shawnee, Kansas, went to be with the Lord, Jesus Christ, Monday, May 25 2009 at Overland Park Nursing Center.
Allen was born May 5, 1925 in Herington, Kansas, to William and Josephine (Deines) Alt. He graduated from Argentine High School and enlisted in the Army to serve in WWII. He was a member of the 92nd Armored Field Artillery. After his discharge he married the love of his life Bonnie June Shrader on April 19, 1946. He and his brother Maynard started their own house painting company after the war. Later he became a general contractor. He loved to play softball, go fishing and spend his retirement winters in Arizona.
Allen was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Bonnie Alt. He is survived by daughter Kathy Alt, Shawnee, Kansas; two sons, Gerald Alt and wife Carol, Shawnee, Kansas and Michael Alt and wife Julie, Mission, Kansas; sister Ardella Hale and husband, Fred, Turner, Kansas; two brothers, Maynard Alt and wife Lois, Shawnee, Kansas; and Spencer Alt and wife Carol, Orlando, Florida; seven grandchildren, Chris, Kami, Cameron, Carrie, Michael D., Kristin and Kassie; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Burial at Leavenworth National Cemetery with full military honors. Friends called from 9 to 11 am Friday at the funeral home.
