Dorothy Anderson passed away on Jul 23, 2013, at the age of 91, at Avera Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls, SD. Dorothy was born to Charles and Rose Gibson on Nov 14, 1921, on a farm north of Gregory, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents, Charles and Rose Gibson; her brother, Arthur; and her sister, Helen Reimnitz. After completing high school in 1939, she attended Springfield Normal for two years and went on to teach at her own country school. She later graduated from South Dakota State University at Brookings with a major in science and home economics education. During her teaching career she also taught at Bridgewater High School, Montrose High School, and later Salem Middle School. On Jun 8, 1947, Dorothy married Don J. Anderson from Salem where they owned and operated the Farmers' Trading Post store and café. In the early years of marriage and family life, Dorothy was active in their church, Ramsey Baptist where she served as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher and often helped young couples make plans for their wedding day. After retirement, Dorothy and Don relocated to Sioux Falls for many active years of fishing trips on the Missouri River, involvement with the Sioux Falls Gideon Auxiliary, where Dorothy served as president, the Christian Women's Organization, and their church, Central Baptist. They also enjoyed many wonderful international trips to Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Scandinavia, Russia, and Israel. Above all, Dorothy cherished her time with her four children and her nine grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made each birthday and Christmas a memorable event. Dorothy was a woman of deep faith in Jesus Christ, great creativity, and endless energy, which she always used in service to others. She was a superb seamstress, cook, baker, gardener, hostess; always striving to teach others her skills. In 2001, Dorothy experienced a cardiac arrest with complications from which she never fully recovered. During the ensuing years her family members have tried to give back to Dorothy a small portion of the gifts, time, and devotion she gave to them. Dorothy is survived by her children, Linda Den Bleyker (Greg) of Coon Rapids, MN; Carolyn Posey (Steve) of Sioux Falls; Craig Anderson (Susan) of St. Paul, MN; and Gail Roling (Barney) of Salem, SD. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Ben, Aaron, Meghan, Paul, Nathaniel, Lindsay, Sarah, Kerry, and Seth; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their children. The funeral service will be held on Mon, Jul 29, 2013, at 11:00am, at Central Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, SD, with visitation an hour before the service. A graveside service will follow at Sun Prairie Baptist Church Cemetery, north of Salem, SD, at 2:00pm.
