Hammond was the youngest child of Elijah Estabrooks and Sarah Hammond. He married his 1st wife Rebeckah Glazier ca. 1805. He married his 2nd wife Catherine Glazier ca. 1818. Hammond and his family moved from Hartland, Carleton Co., New Brunswick to the Estabrook Settlement (near Amity), Aroostook County, Maine in 1842, where they first built a log cabin. He later built a house which is still standing. He was a farmer. Hammond died at age 81. At the time of his death, he was living in his home with his wife Catherine and their son Jedidiah and his family.
