Birth: Sep. 8, 1859
Death: Jul. 2, 1871

Albert Klaus, grandson of William Klaus and Elizabeth Baltis, and son of Theodore and Angeline (Shank) Klaus, was born September 8, 1859 in Pennsylvania.

Albert was the second of his parents' children to die in a tragic accident. While playing, he rolled down a hill in a barrell. The barrell crashed inito a picket fence and one of the pickets penetrated his side. Albert was 11 years old at the time of his death. He shares a tombstone with his parents in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Lecompton, Kansas. Albert rests on the east side of the stone, his mother Angela on the south side, and his father Theodore on the west side. The inscription on Albert's side of the stone is:

"Albert Klaus
Son of T. & A. Klaus
Born September 8, 1859
Died July 2, 1871
There is no death! What seems so is transition;
This life of mortal breath
Is but a suburb of the life elysian;
Whose portal we call death."
