It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our father, James Larry Daugherty. He was called home on the 17th of April 2016 surrounded by his daughters, grandchildren, and wife of forty years, Kathy Ann. Dad was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on December 28th 1941 to Earl and Adel Daugherty; however he was cared for by his stepmother Hilda Daugherty for most of his childhood. After high school, he left Tennessee and joined the United States Army where he was a parachutist from 1959 to 1962 in Berlin, Germany. He was attached to the 101st Airborne Division, the only airborne platoon in the Army qualified to drive tanks. He then moved to Florida in 1962. During his life he worked as a constable, corrections officer, police officer, deputy sheriff, chief investigator, and child protective investigator. He retired from The Department of Children and Families in 2004 and accumulated a total of 30 years with the State of Florida.

He enjoyed working in his yard, guns, old vehicles, crossword puzzles, frying fish, watching The History Channel and The Discovery Channel, and most of all, spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by both parents, sister Diane Coker, and his daughter Jamie Daugherty Shaw. He is survived by his wife Kathy Green Daugherty, Daughters, LaDonna Hembree of Knoxville TN, Angela Sexton Akins and Leslie Sexton Burton (Michael) of Lake City, Florida. He is also survived by his brothers, David Daugherty (Helen), of Chattanooga, TN, Raymond Daugherty (Deniece) of Dalton Georgia, and Richard Daugherty of Dayton TN. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jordan Akins (Whitney), Kaylie Burton Stevens (Kyle) of Cape Coral, FL, Michaela Burton, Austin Akins, Lauren Shaw, Katelyn Burton, Elizabeth Hembree of Knoxville TN, and Abigail Akins. Great grandchildren Karsyn and Kinsley also survive.
