Stokes Wesley Bailey age 78, of Blackberry Lane, Bakersville, NC passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at his home. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Nimpson and Lillie Callahan Bailey. He was a member of White Oak Baptist church.
Stokes graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College in Boone, NC and also East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. He was employed as a loan finance officer with Modern Finance Company and also Northwestern Bank. He was self employed as a heavy equipment operator. He was also in Law Enforcement for a number of years with both The Town of Bakersville Police Department and The Mitchell County Sheriffs Department. Stokes also worked at Henline - Hughes Funeral Home for a number of years.
His favorite hobby was genealogy.
Survivors include: his wife Marcella Tabor Bailey of the home, one daughter Angela Burleson of Bakersville, NC, a son Anthony "Tony" Bailey (Maria) of Wilkesboro, NC, a sister Pauline Parker of Kings Mountain, NC, and a brother Fred Bailey of Kingsport, TN, three grandchildren; Zach Keith Burleson, Tanner Bailey, and MaryAnna Bailey.
He was preceded in death by: his sisters; Rachel Million, Ruth Seatz, and Ida Goins, and a brother Walter Bailey.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 3:00PM in Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with Don Ford officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Bailey Memorial Cemetery.
