David L. Bell Sr.

David L. Bell Sr., 79, of 538 Manning Road, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born Jan. 10, 1930, in Dry Valley, a son of the late Marlin O. and Mary E. (Mitch) Bell. On Sept. 5, 1957, he married the former Laura L. Bingaman, who survives.

David previously was employed at the Zenith Philco Ford plant and retired in April 1993 from American Home Foods, now ConAgra.

He enjoyed music and played a variety of stringed instruments, although he was particularly fond of producing blue grass music on his fiddle. David looked forward to playing his fiddle once a month at Church of Christ in Christian Union, Lewisburg, where he regularly attended services.

He also liked to tinker around the house, and he dearly loved his sons and grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 52 years, are three sons and daughters-in-law, David L. Jr. and Darla J. Bell and Dennis W. and Lisa A. Bell, all of Lewisburg, and Douglas A. and Deneita D. Bell, of Montandon; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Marlin H. Bell, of Kissimmee, Fla., Dale L. and Alice Bell, of Port Trevorton, and Glen R. and Rae Bell, of Lewisburg; one sister, Mary C. Sheesley, of Lewisburg; five grandchildren, David L. Bell III, Melinda Sue Bell, Amelia J. Bell, Damein A. Bell and Danielle L. Bell; six stepgrandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Mitch and Chester Bell.

Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of Christ in Christian Union, Lewisburg, where the service will be held at 11, officiated by the Rev. John F. Saultz.

Burial will follow in Church Hill Cemetery, Kelly Township.

The family is being assisted by the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, Lewisburg.
