Leo, age 74, of Lancaster, died on Tuesday at his residence. He was born the son of Charles & Martha (Schmitz) Abing. On Sept. 11, 1956, he was united in marriage to Bernadette M. Loeffelholz at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville. Together they farmed in Grant County and in 1965, moved to their family farm in South Lancaster Township. He was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church where he served as an usher. Leo was also a member of the Catholic Knights and served as vice president. He was also employed with American Breeder Service, and Murray's Dairy Farm and Refrigeration. Leo enjoyed scouting back roads and fence line shopping. He was always ready to lend his time to anyone in need. Survivors include his wife, Bernadette Abing of Lancaster, WI; his children, Denis Abing of Lancaster, WI, Gerard (Roxzanne) Abing of Platteville, WI, Julie (Ted) Sanger of Lancaster, WI, Mark Abing of Germany, Trina (Johnie) Snyder of Lancaster, WI, Stuart (Liz) Abing of Lancaster, WI, Todd (Theresa) Abing of Richland Center, WI, and Vera (Robert Lackore) Abing of Madison, WI; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Marie Herrig of Dubuque, IA, Irene (Clarence) Seng of Potosi, WI, Bernice Kaiser of Kieler, WI, Louella Brant of Kieler, W, Betty (James) Jungk of Dubuque, IA, Irwin (Katie) Abing of Potosi, WI, Doris (Bernard) Hentrich of Hazel Green, WI, Margaret (Joseph) Hentrich of Belmont, WI, and Richard (Paulette) Abing of Potosi, WI; and a sister-in-law, Florentine (Dan) Abing-Joyce of Lancaster, WI. In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Cyril Abing; and a great-grandson, Cadillac Custer. Funeral services were held on Monday at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp and Father John Norder officiating. Schwartz Funeral Home assisted the family.
