Thomas E. Austin Sr., 59, died Jan. 14, 2007, in Columbus. Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Canaan MB Church with the Rev. Jimmy Pounds officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Garden. Visitation is today from noon to 5 p.m. at Pattman Funeral Directors Chapel in Columbus with family hours from 5-7 p.m. Mr. Austin was born Nov. 23, 1947, to Zachary Johnson of West Point and the late Hattie Austin. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry and James Griffin. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Mattie Austin of Columbus; daughter, Jackie Austin of Tupelo; son, Thomas Austin Jr. of Holly Springs; stepsons, Tommy, Dennis and Gene Sherrod, all of Columbus, and Jimmy Sherrod of Starkville; stepdaughters, Jackie Sherrod and Mildred Lyons, both of Columbus, and Ethel Lanier of Biloxi; sister, Sarah Austin Griffin of Akron, Ohio; and brothers, Johnny and Donnell Austin, both of Akron.
