Wide Reputation as a Physician and Medical Authority
Dr. Benjamin A. Allison died at 10 o'clock Monday night at his home, 236 West North street. His death was caused by paralysis, with which he had been afflicted for four months. His death was not a surprise to his friends and relatives, they having felt from the time he was firt stricken that he woul never recover.
Dr. Allison was one of the best known men in Macon county. He was born Aug. 16, 1816, in Bourbon county, Ky., and when but a small child he moved with his parents to Spencer, Ind. There he remained till 1864, when he came to Decatur to reside. For forty-two years he made his home in Decatur, and during most of that time he practiced his profession in this city and county, and though he retired from active practice fifteen or twenty years ago, there were always some old griends or patients who demanded his services and attention.
Dr. Allison was a man of broad mind and keen intellect, a great reader, a forceful writer, and an excellent conversationalist. Though nearly 90 years old, he kept abreast of the times and was familiar with the happenings in the world about him. Though of modest and retiring disposition, he made friends by the score and was held in high esteem by old and young alike.
He is survived by his wife and three children, C. M. Allison and Mrs. C. M. Imboden of Decatur and Mrs. L. E. Hines of Harrison, N. Y., and also a stepson, Clem Erisman, of Decatur.
The funeral will be private, but the time has not yet been decided on.
