Mr. Arthur Laurence "Art" Moore, 101, prominent Osage County resident and retired owner/operator/printer of the Barnsdall Times for 42 years, died at his rural Barnsdall, Oklahoma residence at 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2009.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated for Mr. Moore at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2009, in the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Barnsdall. Father Chris Daigle will be the celebrant. Dedication of the grave, committal prayers, and entombment will be directed in the Ethel Reece Cemetery by The Arnold Moore -Barnsdall Funeral Home.
Mr. Moore will lie in state in the Arnold Moore-Barnsdall Funeral Home where family and friends may call for their visitation.
Arthur Laurence Moore was born on April 20, 1908 in Bronson, Kansas. He was the son of the late Laurence Moore and Nellie May (Hampton) Moore. He attended Bronson High School and was graduated with the Senior Class of 1926. He furthered his education by attending Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. Art worked for the Blue Mound Newspaper from 1926-1929. He and the former Miss Christine Margaret Cromer were united in marriage on April 25, 1929 at Fulton, Kansas. They made their first home at Blue Mound, Kansas for one year before moving to Cushing, Oklahoma. In 1930, Mr. and Mrs. Moore purchased the Barnsdall Times and moved to Barnsdall to make their home. Art was the owner/operator/printer of the Barnsdall Times for 42 years. In the early 1950s, Art and his brother, Harry Moore, became partners in the Barnsdall Times. Along with the newspaper business, Art was also a partner with R G. Grindstaff in the furniture business in Bartlesville. After retirement in 1972, Art worked in his wood shop, raised gardens, visited Ireland and his father's home place in Ireland in 1978. In 1979, Art and his wife, Christine, celebrated 50 years of marriage. Mrs. Moore preceded Art in death on December 26, 1985. In 1998, Art and Gerda Mauldin were united in marriage in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and they have made their home in Barnsdall since that time.
Survivors include his wife, Gerda, of the Barnsdall home; daughters, Patricia Louise Mace and Robert, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Marilyn Jean Wilson, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dorothy Jane Moore, of Carlsbad, California, and Dianne Marie Fisher and Woodson, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; seven grandsons; two granddaughters; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine; sisters, Opal G. Owens and Dorothy Binns; and brother, Harry Lowell Moore.
