COLUMBIA Mr. Arthur Utley "Buddy" Adams Jr., 90, died Sunday, July 22, 2012. Mr. Adams was the son of the late Arthur and Ethel Jowitt Adams. He was a lifelong resident of Columbia, attended the Columbia City Schools and the University of South Carolina. Mr. Adams proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the China Burma India theatre. Two weeks after he returned to Columbia after the war, his father was killed in an automobile accident and he took over the family business, The Key Shop, which he owned for over forty years.

A charter member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, he was involved in many aspects of the church including the Boy Scouts, Men's Sunday School Class, Habitat for Humanity and various church committees. He was honored as elder emeritus in 1999.

After his retirement, Mr. Adams volunteered at Providence Hospital where he served as President of the Auxiliary and was Volunteer of the Year in 2001. Mr. Adams was active in the 530th Fighter Squadron known as the Yellow Scorpions and was a liaison among veterans who served with him in China Burma India.

Surviving are his daughter, Katherine Adams Lawson (Tommy); two sisters, Ollie Adams Farnam of Columbia, Mildred Adams Martin of Clearwater, Fla.; two grandsons, Adam Thompson Lawson (Lollie) and Wesley Sumner Lawson (Amy); great-grandson, Benjamin Utley Lawson.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 66 years, Ann Laird and two sisters, Margaret Easler and Ethel Lee Haithcock.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at the Presbyterian Community and following the service on Thursday in the church parlor. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
