On 2/15/1874, at age 28, Miss Minerva Ann married John Tilford Abner {Abney}, a Civil War Union Cavalry Veteran. John was the son of Clement and Polly Chaney Abner {Abney}. The couple made their home in Powell, KY. where John worked as a miner. In the 1880 Federal Census, John and Minerva Ann are noted as having three children: Sherman, Emaline, and Christopher. Daughter, Patsy would follow.
The Abner {Abney} family moved to a farm at Hardwick's Creek, Powell Co., KY, where they were residing in 1900. Son Christopher and daughter Patsy were living on the farm at that time. By 1910 the Abners were in Stanton, Powell Co., KY farming there. Patsy was the only child left at home at age 24.
Minerva Ann died in 1916 at age 69 of acute complications from the tuberculosis she had been suffering from for at least two years. Minerva left John a widower for five years, until he was laid to rest beside her at age 80.
