Each time we embrace a memory,
we meet again with those we love...
for the heart never forgets.

George F. Rindt was born in Danville, IL, a son of Gustav A. and Emma Leek Rindt. His brothers and sisters were Margaret Hike, Harry Rindt, Helen Woodin, Howard Rindt, John "Max" Rindt and Alice Roberts Kerans. He grew up in Vermilion Heights.
He married Mae Burgoyne in 1924. They were the parents of Jack and Mary Lou, and the grandparents of Cindy and Debby.
He was in the dry cleaning business until his retirement in 1971. He enjoyed working in their vegetable garden and playing cards. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
Granddaddy was such a good sport. Whenever we played games, mostly Canasta and Euchre, he would participate with gusto and never seemed to mind whether his "team" won or lost. Of course it was wonderful when "we" beat the other team of my grandmother and my sister, but it was usually about 50-50. We picked on him because he smoked, locking him in the basement so the smoke wouldn't come upstairs. Of course we let him out as soon as he was done. I will never forget the smell of his pipe tobacco. We helped him in his garden, and picked their flowers for bouquets for the house.
He told us that he had seen the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show, and it was really something. Very entertaining, with unusual acts.
He rode the trains during the depression to look for work to provide for his family. He came home in the middle of the night one night and was locked out. He scared my mother to death knocking on her bedroom window to wake her up so he could get in.
He passed away at 79 from cancer.

Thank you to Susan for the wonderful frames she added to my Grandfather's photos. What a thoughtful and lovely thing to do! You are so appreciated.
