James Elmo Cupples
Services for James Elmo Cupples, 67 will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Griffin Funeral Home with Rev. John Smart and Rev. Melvin Geary officiating. Burial will follow in the Cave Springs Cemetery in Chester County.
Mr. Cupples died Monday morning at his residence in Wildersville, Tennessee after a short illness.
He was born in Chester County and moved to the Bemis Community at an early age and was educated in the Madison County schools and West Tennessee Business College. Mr. Cupples was presently the Public Relations Director of the Cotton Patch, Inc.
He was a Baptist and a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in World War II. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, serving as Commander of Camp 1403, Nathan Bedford Forrest Chapter Military Order of the Stars and Bars. He was President of the Henderson County Possum Club, President of the Henderson County Historical Society, and a member of the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, was Treasurer of the Tourism Association of Southwest Tennessee, and was Sergeant Major of the 52nd Tennessee Infantry CSA and a radio personality (Ole Sarg) of FM 99 in Lexington.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marie Ward Cupples of Memphis, a daughter, Mrs. Donna Derden of Irving, TX., a son, Douglas Cupples of Memphis, five half-sister's, Mrs. Edith Hall and Mrs. Lila Robison both of Henderson, Mrs. Lottie Tucker of Bethel Springs, Mrs. Linda Britt of Jackson and Mrs. Gloria Applegate of Peoria, IL., two foster sisters, Mrs. Arvie Granger and Mrs. Lorhada Martin both of Jackson, five half-brothers, Alton Patterson, Jerry Patterson and Donnie Patterson all of Bethel Springs, David Patterson of Sand Springs, Ok. And Kenton Patterson of Henderson and five grandchildren.
