Passing of Minnie Burford

One among the most loved of the elderly women of the Cove was Mrs. Minnie Burford, wife of Jas. S. Burford and mother of twelve living sons and daughters, six girls and six boys, never losing one of them by death or otherwise, a good moral family of which the mother was the central figure. After a hand-to-hand fight with death, the throat disease was conquered, when the heart was suddenly paralyzed and she passed over at the family town residence, May 17, 1924, aged 59 years.

The burial was in Cove cemetery by Wild Rose Rebekah Lodge No. 102, IOOF, of which she was a Past Noble Grand, Rev. J.W. Slaton conducting a brief service at the grave. The presence of all her family relatives and fraternal sisters and brothers of Oddfellows, Royal neighbors and American Legion Woman Axillary with their profusion of floral designs and offerings, was augmented by a host of acquaintances and friends.

Mrs. Burford was born at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, April 7, 1865; came to Cove, Or., with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Rundall in 1875; was married to Jas. S. Burford Feb. 26, 1882. She is survived by her devoted husband, twelve children: Mrs. Vivian Mytinger of Pendleton, Or., William, Orphia, Frank, Archie and Arthur Burford, Mrs. Hazel Lindesy, Mrs. Vernon Cockrell of Union, Or., Miss Bina, Claude, Opal and Letha Burford of the Cove, and fourteen grandchildren; also by four sisters, Mrs. Georgia Campbell of Cheney, Wash., Mrs. Emma Fisher of Enterprise, Or., Mrs. Grace Wilkinson of Twin Falls, Ida., Mrs. Hattie Bently of Baker, Or., and two brothers, John Rundall of Cove, Ore.

The Eastern Oregon Republican published in its Cove Sentinel Department, the last family reunion July 4, 1923, at the home of the parents when 37 members were present and Mr. and Mrs. Jas. S. Burford entertained them with a lawn social.
