He was a member of the American Legion and was an Army veteran of the Korean War, receiving a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was a member and deacon of Ebenezer Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Usher Board. He was retired from True Temper.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Allen of Charleston; daughters, Shawn Allen of Charleston, Shane Allen of Washington, D.C., Shanna Allen and Shelby Hill, both of Charleston; stepsons, Bobby Barnes of Landover, Md., Stuart Barnes of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister, Annie Smith of Huntington.
