Professional Basketball Player. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he played at the forward and center positions for ten seasons (1962 to 1972) in the National and American Basketball Associations, with the San Francisco Warriors, Baltimore Bullets, Detroit Pistons, Denver Rockets, Los Angeles/Utah Stars, Texas Chaparrals and Carolina Cougars. Like basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain , Hightower was a star player during his high school years at Philadelphia's Overbrook High and played collegiate basketball at the University of Kansas. Hightower appeared in 565 career NBA and ABA games scoring 6,568 points with 3,966 rebounds. He was selected to the 1969 ABA All Star Team. He died of a heart attack.
