Chester Arthur (Slim) Deavor, 71, died January 16, 1987, at Holy Name of Jesus Hospital in Gadsden. A native of Blount County, Alabama and a longtime resident of Etowah County, he had retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 40 years' service. He was a member of Gadsden Lodge 236 F & AM and of a Nectar Methodist church. He attended North Gadsden Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Catherine Gibbs; two sons, Dr. W.C. Deavor, Selma, and Chris Deavor, Gadsden; three daughters, Carolyn Hammond and Ann Steele, both of Gadsden, and Kay Headrick, Alamogordo, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; a brother, E.W. Deavor, Gadsden; four sisters, Lillian Burke, Gadsden, Virgie Green, Hayden, Sibyl Rutherford, Cleveland, Madge Ridgeway, Center Point.

Rev. Hugh Esco Jr. conducted funeral from Collier-Butler Chapel Jan. 18. Fellow Masons were pallbearers. Burial was at Crestwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorials to North Gadsden Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
