John Allgor, Nyack village's long-time building inspector, died suddenly at home Tuesday night.

He was 44 years old.

The cause of death is not known, and funeral arrangements have not been finalized.

A wake will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main St., New City. A funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m., Monday, at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 140 Maple Ave., New City.

Allgor, who served as Nyack's building inspector for 14 years, is survived by his wife and 5-year-old daughter. The Rockland County Medical Examiner's Office will determine what caused his death.


John J. Allgor, a life long resident of Rockland Co. died unexpectedly on September 23, 2009. John was 44. John was born in Ramapo on August 1, 1965 to Peter and Eleanor (Coulter) Allgor. John has lived in New City for 9 yrs, prior Nyack and Valley Cottage. He had been the building inspector in the Village of Nyack for 18yrs. In 1998 he married Joanna Maros in Poland. He is survived by his parents Peter and Eleanor of KY. His wife Joanna, a daughter Maya; His brother Peter of Queens; his aunt Maria Allgor of Valley Cottage; his great aunt Camille Polloci of Valley Cottage; three nephews and one niece. The family will receive friends today from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11am in St. Augustine's Church in New City.
