He was the son of John C. and Almeda Jane (Williams) Edmondson. He had five brothers: Bill, Howard, Wendall, Glen "Mutt", and Medford Edmondson. Three sisters: Gladys Edmondson Fisher, Jean Edmondson Trainer, and Ruth Edmondson Hendrickson. Ernie served in the Navy during WWII. Married Patricia M.(Hough) Edmondson on July 30, 1947, in Nowata, OK. They had four children: Barbara Jo (Edmondson) Kerr, Shirley Jane "Janie" (Edmondson) Mize, Johnny and Ernie Steve Edmondson. Owned and operated a small oil lease near Chelsea. Also, was owner and operator of the Silver Saddle Motel in Nowata.
