Delta County resident, Jack Eldon Ames, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at his residence in Delta, Colorado. He was 84.

Jack Eldon Ames was born to Marion Eldon and Beulah (Nickels) Ames on January 26, 1929, in Weatherford, Oklahoma. He spent his first seven years of childhood in Sinbad Valley. His family later moved to Elk City, Oklahoma.

Following his high school graduation, Jack married the love of his life, Waneta Cain in Elk City, Oklahoma. To this union, two daughters and two sons were born. Jack and Waneta have resided in Delta for over 23 years coming from the Colorado Springs area. The couple would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this fall. Waneta survives.

Jack, a retired deputy sheriff and property manager, enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes and raising goats when he was younger. More importantly, Jack loved and cherished his family. He was a member of Delta Christian Church
Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Waneta Ames of Delta; one son, Lee Ames of Meadow Lakes, AK; and one daughter, Judy Bradford of Anchorage, AK. He is further survived by five grandchildren: Tracy LeBlanc, Don Bradford III, Tanya Williams, Brian Dopps and Sasha Parks; seventeen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Jack was preceded in death by one son, Dan Ames; one daughter, Mary Beth Palyash; and two brothers, Irvin and Bob Ames.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Jack's memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 24, Delta, Colorado 81416; or to Delta Christian Church Missions Trip, 795 1600 Road, Delta, CO 81416.
