Clara Anderson Succumbs

Funeral services for Mrs. Clara F. Anderson, 80, of 510 SW 4th Street, were held in the First United Methodist Church, Galva, at 1:30 p. m. Wednesday.

Rev. James Hancock officiated and burial was in the Galva Cemetery.

Mrs. Anderson died at 8:40 a. m., Saturday, at Leisure Hills Health Center, Kewanee, where she had been a patient for the past two months. She had been in failing health for the past three months.

She was born Jan. 10, 1893, five miles east of Cambridge, one of three children of William H. and Mary E. Hutson Fickling. She was educated in the Cambridge rural schools and the Kewanee Business college. In 1911, she stared working as a stenographer with the Hayes Pump and Planter Co., Galva, where she worked for five years until her marriage to Oscar A. Anderson, Oct. 2, 1916. He died July 29, 1953.

She was later recalled to the Hayes Pump and Planter Co. as head stenographer for six more years. In 1954, she started working for Dr. A. C. Gathmann and worked until Jan. 2, 1968. From 1968 until her health failed, she worked for the Johnson-Gill-Schuster Chapel in Galva.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Galva; a charter member of WSCS and the Gleaners Sunday School class; the Rebekah Lodge; Lake Calhoun Association; Legion Auxiliary and had served since World War I with the American Red Cross as secretary or as fund drive chairman.

She is survived by one son, Dale E. Anderson, Kewanee; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd Fickling, Normal, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, Galva, or the American Red Cross. The Johnson-Gill-Schuster Chapel had charge of arrangements.
