Abigail Rachel Rippey was born May 10th, 1858 in Shelby Co, OH, a daughter of Matthew R. Rippey and Barbara Ann Butt. The family moved to Moultrie Co, IL where Abigail's father died in 1864. Her mother remarried Stephen Merritt Harris in 1876 just 2 weeks after Abigail's marriage to John Riley Patten. Abigail and John had 2 children Emery Burton Patten and Charles Matthew Patten. By 1880, the family moved to Pawnee Twp, Bourbon Co, KS where Abigail's husband John died in 1883. Abigail remarried in 1887 to William H. Barker, but had no more children. They lived in Fort Scott at least through 1925. Abigail died September 29th, 1927 in Hutchinson, Reno Co, KS.
