Lavinia Rice was born November 22nd, 1831 in Edwards Co, IL, a daughter of Cyrus and Martha Gilbert Gould Rice. She was married May 5th 1858 to William M. Bell, 18 years her senior. Their first child, a daughter was named Illinois Rice Bell and was born in Greenville, Bond Co, IL. About 1865, they moved to Owatonna, Steele Co, MN along with several other of their family and relatives. Here, their 2nd daughter named Minnesota Rice Bell was born in 1867. She died at the age of 10 in November of 1877 (not sure of the cause of her death).
Lavinia and her husband divorced by 1880 when William was found living single as a divorced man in Owatonna. I have not found where Lavinia was living in 1880, but in 1895 she was living with her brother Cyrus Rice's family in Cherryvale, Montgomery Co, KS. By 1900, she had moved back to Edwards County, and in 1910 was living with her brother Oren Rice. She died the next year in 1911 at the age of 79. Her daughter Illinois was still living in 1910, but I have not been able to find out if she married or what became of her.
