Richard J. Chaffee, Sr., age 65, of Lane St., Shelton entered into rest Tuesday Aug. 24, 2004 in his home with his loving family by his side. He is the devoted husband of Constance (Connie) Filanowski Chaffee. Dick was born in Bridgeport Oct. 21, 1938, son of Ruth Miller Chaffee and the late Everett Chaffee, and has been a Shelton resident for most of his life. Dick was a 32 year member of the Orange Police Department before his retirement in 1994. He was a negotiator for the IBPO while he was in Orange and was also the President of NAGE, and was a Social member of the Orange Fire Department, and a past Captain of the Echo Ambulance Corps, where he was a 20 year member. He was also a 43 year member of the Huntington Fire Department and served as the Fire Commissioner. Dick was also a Sheriff and State Marshal for over 21 years. He was an Aux. St. Trooper and worked for the State Department of Transportation. He was also a veteran of the US Army, and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Dick was the organizer of numerous parades, events, anniversaries and charitable events. He is the beloved father of Richard J. Chaffee, Jr. and his wife Kathy, James W. Chaffee, Robert D. Chaffee, and Michael A. Chaffee, and Robin A. Chaffee and her husband Jay J. Silva. He is the brother of Everett “Mike” Chaffee and his wife Carol, and Bradford Chaffee and his wife Dorothy. He is the loving grandfather of James, Nicholas, Alexander and Elizabeth Chaffee and Jordan Blue and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Burial in Lawn Cemetery, Huntington, CT
