Stan Bence, 92, a lifelong resident of Lake Geneva, WI, died Wednesday September 21, 2011 at his home. Stanley F. Bence was born in Lake Geneva, WI on November 29, 1918. He was the son of Harry Bucht and Alice (Twist) Bence-Bucht.
He was a graduate of Lake Geneva High School, graduating in 1937. On March 2, 1946 in Lake Geneva he was united in marriage to the former Rona Mason. Stan worked as an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for over 30 years.
He is a member of Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lake Geneva. He was a former member and Past President of the Lake Geneva Lions Club. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1647 in Lake Geneva. He was a former alderman for the City of Lake Geneva and had served as council president. He received the Stu Herzog Citizenship Award from the Geneva Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. He is on the Lake Geneva Schools Wall of Success. For the last 25 years Stan has been a volunteer driver for the Walworth County Transportation Service.
Stan is survived by: Rona, his wife of 65 years, 4 children; Barbara (Philip) McMahon of Lake Geneva, WI, Trish (Tom Robers) Bence of Richmond, IL, Susan Bence of Shorewood, WI, and Thomas (Julie) Bence of Lake Geneva, WI, 6 grandchildren; Suzie (Shawn) Ahlers, Bridget McMahon, Anne Coley, Thom Coley, Kyle Bence, Jared Bence, and a great-grandson Jonas Ahlers. He was preceded in death by: his parents, a granddaughter Sara McMahon and a brother Dick Bucht.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Friday October 7, 2011 at 11:30 a.m., in Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lake Geneva; Monsignor David Malloy will officiate. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lake Geneva. The Bence family will receive visitors on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in church. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials are requested in Stan's name to: V.N.A. Hospice, 500 Interchange North, Lake Geneva, WI 53147.
