Samuel Reinert was my Great Grandfather. He was one of many children on a farm in Pennsylvania, where he worked form dawn to dusk. He got on a train and left home at age 16 never to return, with a feeling he wouldn't be missed. He never spoke of his childhood. The only name he mentioned was his Mother's, Catherine. Many years later we found out his his Father's name was Samuel. Our family never knew where exactly he was from in PA. They thought maybe Reading from some phrases he used, thought he might be Amish. It took him two years to muster up the courage to speak to a very pretty Edna Mae Perry, whom he'd later marry. Edna went to Reading once to try to find where Samuel came from, look for his family, she had no luck. Samuel & Edna had 8 children, 3 children did not survive infancy (Arthur, Herbert & Charles), Florence, Howard, Mary, Edna & Charlotte. Their home was on River Street in Hackensack, N.J. Samuel was a railroad engineer. His children remembered him as a kind, gentle man. When his wife said the children needed spankings, he'd pretend to give them one & told the children to pretend they had one. He & his wife, Edna, spent their later years living with their daughter, Florence & her family. Moments before he died, he told Florence he heard music playing.
