Ruth lived in St. Petersburg Florida most of her 87 years. She never found out who her biological mother was. She was a practical person not given to flights of fancy. She was prone to a little wanderlust, however, devouring nature shows and National Geographic. She would have been exactly like animal researcher Jane Goodall if someone would have sponsored her. She loved everything about animals both wild and domestic. "Nature" was Ruth's religion. Ruth had no children except for her "furry" children.
Born in Montreal, she came here in 1952 from Pittsburgh. She was a gift wrapper for Maas Brothers department store in St. Petersburg for 28 years. She walked everywhere or rode her bike. Often when she would see a dead animal that had been run over in the street she would bury it. "Respectful", she explained. She had the most lovely and melodic laugh...you heard it often if she was around. She had scores of pets over the years. Her all time favorite was probably "Minksy" a cat more like a dog because it literally played ball with her. Ruth is survived by her cat Delsi who is being lovingly looked after now by Ruth's good friend Marc Garner. Whenever I get a little sad missing my friend Ruth I remember how much she regarded the intelligence of life. Ruth knew that all things that live will die and that to die is to be part of the natural order of things. She would say that she had all the seasons of her life, Just like Minksy did. I hope they are playing ball together right now.
