Although I did not know my grandmother Delfina, I understand she gave birth to all 13 of her children at home with the help of Josefa Perez Guerra, a midwife. (she was her husbands aunt who raised him, but known to everyone as her mother-in-law) She loved people, loved flowers and plants, and was often seen in her garden talking to them, telling them how beautiful they were. She grew everything, including vegetables and many healing plants used for medicinal purposes.

She made flour tortilla's daily, and always shared what she had with everyone. Even during difficult times and through the Great Depression, she divided whatever food she had so that each person would have something to eat. She worked hard all her life, never complained, always wore a smile, and appreciated everything.

She died at home in Lincoln Heights after a lengthy illness on Oct. 13, 1958 at the age of 64.

Father: Victoriano Maldonado b. 1846
Mother: Lorenza Montes Cercas b. 1850
Sister: Ramoneita Maldonado b. 1891
